Julie’s Irish Jaunt 2012

The Irish Adventure August 12th – 19th

This tour is designed with the adventurous spirit in mind. I had the pleasure of meeting Julie on a previous tour, and she is just a hoot to travel with. This won’t be any regular tour, its a rare opportunity to travel with such an intimate group of friends and like minded road warriors. This is not about seeing Ireland, or visiting Ireland.. This is about diving headfirst into the country, experiencing the history, culture and the people. It’s about feeling you are part of the country, even for a short time. With a focus on photography, you will be able to bring all those emotions and memories home with you to remember. Long after your return flight home.

Day one: Sunday 12th

Direct overnight flight out of Boston, arrives into Dublin early the following morning.

Day Two: Monday 13th

We will board our coach and take a little tour around Dublin city, to get familiar with the major sites. So much to see, so little time! But the day is free to explore Dublin just as you would like to. Try the Hop on / Hop off tour, or a Pint at the Guinness Store house, enjoy the great shopping, or do a little bit of everything. If your up for it, We can all meet up in the evening a take in a little live music, in one of my favorite bars in Ireland.

Accommodation: Clontarf Castle Hotel

Day Three: Tuesday 14th

Today we will head into the South West region, towards the picturesque seaside village of Kinsale. Kinsale is considered the gourmet capital of Ireland, and with good reason. Situated on the Atlantic coast, this town has so much to offer. Nestled in between the mountains and the Ocean, Kinsale comes with a lot of history (defense port) and the glory is, it can all be explored on foot. The bars and restaurants are fantastic, especially the ones that are a little harder to find, those I look forward to showing you. It makes navigating the narrow, steep streets much more interesting..Tonight, we stay in a downtown, award winning guesthouse.

Accommodation: Old Bank House

Day Four: Wed 15th

From there, it’s a relatively short drive to Killarney (we might even stop at a 600 year old castle). Killarney is popular simply because it is surrounded by countless activities that suit all tastes. It can get busy over peak season, but once you get outside of the main area, you will be amazed, and wonder where everyone went. I insure you will be well briefed on what to do (or more importantly, what not to do). Time permitting we will try to fit in Molls Gap, Muckross House and Gardens, and Ross Castle. Tomorrow will be a free day and we will cover all possible activities closer to the day.

Accommodation: Muckross Park Hotel

Day Five: Thur 16th

I can’t think of a better way to start the day than with a little Yoga, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy. Go explore! We will meet you all back in town for dinner and live entertainment. Or if you prefer, you can indulge and spend the evening at the  amazing new spa facilities. This luxury spa, has been voted the best in Ireland, and I think you will have a very relaxing visit. So go on and treat yourself. We will be staying here again tonight.

Day Six: Friday 17th

You are probably thinking this can’t get much better.. But the seaside town of Dingle is straight out of a postcard, and is really only enjoyable in smaller groups, like yours. The restaurants and bars are small, only in size, the atmosphere here is electric. After a day exploring the Slea Head region, the only thing you will be thinking about is, when can you return. The regions main draw is the variety of scenery, ranging from rugged coastline and golden beaches to quaint cottages and rolling hills. Hopefully the sheep are being cooperative, they tend to rule the roads around here. But on a clear day (last year it was a Sunday)  it is said, you can see the coast of the USA.. This region has some key attractions, 4000 year old hutts and churches, a resident dolphin called Fungi and, oddly enough, palm trees!!

Accommodation: Benners Hotel, Dingle

Day Seven: Saturday 18th

Out on the open road again, today we hug the coast and even make  a ferry crossing, before arriving onto the infamous coastline, where the Cliff Of Moher reside, you may have heard of them! Personally, this is one of may favorite places in the world. I never get tired of looking down at the rolling breaking waves (watch the surfers below) crashing off the cliffs and feeling that spray  700ft above. This evening we will spend our last night at the Cliffs of Moher Hotel near Lahinch. This journey has provided you with a wide variety of accommodations, and this is the perfect finish, I think you will agree.

Day Eight: Sunday 19th

After a long walk on the shoreline, or a final few vanyasas by the breakers and golden sands, it time to head down on that short drive down to Shannon and onto the US and home. But with new friends, great stories, and a new lease on life!

What a perfect finish to an incredible journey. At this point in the journey your camera will be red hot, and the memory cards will be bulging out of your pockets. But not with your regular photos, photographs that you would be proud to put on any wall. From this day on, you will look at your camera differently, lovingly! Your pictures will now grab the attention of onlookers and guests. In reality, you will go on and use the skills you have learned, on a daily basis. Not only this, but you will never have felt more rejuvenated after all that morning Yoga, easy living and ridiculous amounts of fresh air, will have you feeling like a new improved version of you.
